LinkedIn is powerful, bet no one really told you that
LinkedIn allows you to connect and follow people or organisations you're interested in. Your profile allows you to be seen by professionals vice versa, which helps a lot especially if you're looking for a job. Why?
For me, I really like the idea of networking with someone from the organisation you're interested in applying. Rather than have the HR settle hundreds of CVs (including yours), why not get an express pass and try getting in with connections you make on LinkedIn?
Your impression and impact is vastly different from other applicants. It just shows how eager you are to get that position! The people you connect may have the authority to get you in for that position if your sincerity and interest shows!
I was personally offered a variety of jobs through LinkedIn but declined them all as I am currently on internship. See how opportunities come by just like that!
Of course, if your purpose of being on LinkedIn is not to be exposed to more opportunities of getting a job, connecting and sharing with like-minded people works too! You may even find yourself an online good friend who shares the same hobbies or interests as you. Sometimes, talking to strangers ain't that bad, huh? ;)
