Joining SAFVC

Can't believe it's been so long since my last post and now I'm back with an update! I have officially graduated from NYP and am moving on to my next phase in life which is university. Strange enough, during my final semester, I found out about the SAFVC (SAF Volunteer Corps). I did not bother with that at all then, but I thought a lot about what my purpose in life was. Thinking back, I am thankful to have found out about this voluntary scheme and eventually signed up for it around mid-March.

So what is this SAFVC about?

It is a voluntary scheme that allows Singaporeans (mostly females) and PRs to gain a deeper knowledge of national service and contribute to the defence of the country. More information can be found here: https://www.mindef.gov.sg/oms/safvc/

Truthfully speaking, when I signed up, I did not know what to expect and had to do my homework by scrolling through #safvc posts on Instagram and watch relevant videos on Youtube to better understand.

One part of the application form questioned my top 3 preferred roles, which you can refer here to know more: https://www.mindef.gov.sg/oms/safvc/roles.html

Just to share, my top 3 choices are:

  1. C4 Expert (Air Force)

  2. Bridge Watchkeeper (Navy)

  3. Sea Soldier (Navy)

I must have been quite dumb to place C4 Expert as my first choice, knowing that I would not be accepted due to my lack of experience professional wise. Nevertheless, I was glad to be offered my second choice where I would be serving in the Republic of Singapore Navy. I would be joining next year's intake batch for my Basic Training and subsequently the Qualification Training and Advanced Training to prepare me for deployment (yay!).

If you'd like to know more about SAFVC or join us, you can follow the links provided or contact me via your preferred means!

Till then, wish me luck! :P
