Hi there lost time no see~. Well, jokes aside. I'm finally back after disappearing for 2 weeks or so!
An update of an event which is of paramount importance to me, I have finally taken my TOPIK I! (yayyyyy!) Wait wait, did I explain what TOPIK is? TOPIK stands for Test of Proficiency in Korean, a recognised certificate which is valid for 2 years, proving one's level of proficiency in the language.
Why is it of paramount importance to me?
I prepared for the 69th TOPIK since Feb 2020. 69th TOPIK was supposed to be held in Apr and was postponed to May, and then again to July 12th. With the exam being postponed twice, though I had more time to revise and prepare, I was equally nervous and tired of the long wait. I was only in the exam hall for about 2.5 hours but took 5 months to prepare for it.
Thoughts on the exam?
All test takers were given a unique TOPIK marker and correction tape, so you don't have to prepare any stationery for the exam. The exam hall is surprisingly really cold (not sure if it was due to the rainy weather) so do bring a jacket! The listening portion would begin first and then you'll head on to the reading section afterwards. Time allocation is noted in the table above^. Personally, I felt that the test was manageable, though it was trickier as compared to the past TOPIK papers I did. I'm guessing that I'll be scoring about 170-185 range out of 200 (let's see if I'm right, will update in my future post)
Tips for the exam?
Prepare early
Do your past year papers, the style of question is the same! After all, practice makes perfect, right?
Do not utilise too much time on a question you don't know
Move on, that question at most cost you 4 marks but not being able to finish or not having the chance to check through all answers again may cost you more!
Grab there (unless someone's sending you)
Ditch the public transport and shuttle bus. I was relieved I ditched it. The school is in a very deserted place and you wouldn't want to panic before taking an exam (from fear of missing the shuttle bus to wet weather to being late etc etc etc). Just grab there, you can even sleep in more:)
Lastly, gon' throw in a snippet of my desk in the exam hall!

See you again in my future post when my results are out on 20th Aug! Ciao:D
